Gonna make this as short and sweet as possible folks since I’ll be wiping my nose every paragraph. That’s right, thanks to one of my regular gaming buddies, I am a sneezing sniffling mess. No worries, we’ll be gaming tonight, and I’ll just have to bring him to sniffly tears over a game board.
The big new release this week is a zany genre-bending card game called Smash Up. What makes this one unique is all in the title, basically you’ll be taking two different decks of cards and smashing them together to form an army. Each deck represents a particular class of critter, such as pirates, ninjas, or zombies, so you’ll get to mash zombies and ninjas together and see how they fare against your buddy’s army of aliens and pirates. Despite my initial mockery of such an idea, I really want to try this one now, and it is getting great response from even the most jaded of game reviewers. Also, the color and composition of the box art is extremely appealing, so it just sits there and calls to me like a dinosaur siren.
This week we also received some great little toys that loosely fit into a ‘puzzle’ category. First off we have a new batch of popballs, and this time some of them have grown hair! Ask us for a demo of these, they are ridiculously fun to experiment with. Also ask us to show off the RC car in a soda pop can, far more in a little can than you would expect. More air gliders and glow-in-the-dark parachuters round out the puzzly toy shipment.
Eventwise, join us tomorrow night for our new Strategy Saturdays, and mark your calendars for our free King of Tokyo tournament next weekend, and a Mansions of Madness experience on October 27. Cheers and happy gaming!
Saturday Strategy Gathering, 6-10pm: Same great game night style, now more palatable for the weekday workers. So far we have folks recruiting for a game of Game of Thrones and a game of Middle Earth Quest. Check out our guild forum for more info, to reserve a seat, or recruit for a game of your own.
King of Tokyo Tournament, Sunday October 21 @ 2pm: This is your chance to be a big bad Japanese movie monster, and win some Cloud Cap cash if you prove to be the king. King of Tokyo is like a mash-up of Yahtzee and king of the hill. Huge fun for ages 10 and up. Come stomp some skyscrapers!
Pathfinder Adventures: Our summer intern, Tam, is looking to run some Pathfinder adventures on Saturday evenings for up to 5 players, ages 13 and up. Strap on your armor and RSVP for this if you are interested.
Monthly RPG night: We are trying to get at least one night a month of roleplaying games going, probably every third thursday at this point. What we need however, is at least one gamemaster. All roleplaying systems are welcome. Let us know if you are interested and when we get enough we’ll officially add it to our schedule.
Magic the Gathering Club (Friday, 4-6pm): Bring your cards for playing and trading, or just come to learn the game.
Pokemon League (Saturday, 10am-Noon): Trade and play and earn some free cards and badges.
Family Game Gathering (Sunday, Noon-6pm): Sunday is family game day, arrive when you want and test drive some games from our demo library. Do not be shy about asking us to teach you a new one.
Strategy Game Gathering (Wednesday, 6pm-11pm): One of the best darn game nights in town!
