Weekly Shop Update: 10/5/12

How does everyone like this wind? Its almost dangerous kite weather, but if you are up for the challenge, we’ve still got a few in stock, including a large stunt kite that we’re sure could handle it. But if braving the wind is not your thing, we’ve got a slew of new event announcements that might suit you better.

But first, the new games, just a few. For fans of Glory to Rome and Innovation, you’ll be pleased to know that designer Carl Chudyk has a new game out called Flowerfall that is nothing like his other games, except for the frequent splendid moments of chaos. In Flowerfall, you are literally dropping cards with your color flower on them, trying to land them such that your flowers dominate garden patches. It really is a good time, come ask for a demo. In the same shipment we received another small game, Sixis. This is a nice light press your luck dice and cards game, the first in a line of dice and card games by publisher Asmadi. We’ll have this set up on the demo table for a test run. Finally, we’d be silly not to mention that the new Magic the Gathering set, Return to Ravnica, releases today, but if you are interested in Magic, you already know this. This set is hot!

Speaking of battling mages, we are having a sorcery sale for a few weeks. Basically all games involving dueling mages are now 20% off (sadly, we must exclude Magic the Gathering from this sale). Games that fall into this category include Seasons, Mage Wars, and Summoner Wars. Mage Wars will also come with a free copy of the core spell Tome. Feel free to hunt for others. And be sure to check out our Back Rack, where every game is 1/2 off with the purchase of any other game at regular price.

OK, here is a list of events, and we are very excited to announce a few new ones, highlighted in red:

Saturday Strategy Gathering, 6-10pm: We’ve talked about this for some time, and we are finally flippin’ the switch. Its just like our Wednesday gatherings, only easier for many to attend perhaps? We are also going to try and feature specific games on these nights, and encourage more play of some of the Living Card Games. This Saturday is the inaugural, and we’ll be featuring Alien Frontiers with the Factions expansion!

King of Tokyo Tournament, Sunday October 21 @ 2pm: This is your chance to be a big bad Japanese movie monster, and win some Cloud Cap cash if you prove to be the king. King of Tokyo is like a mash-up of Yahtzee and king of the hill. Huge fun for ages 10 and up. Come stomp some skyscrapers!

Pathfinder Adventures: Our summer intern, Tam, is looking to run some Pathfinder adventures on Saturday evenings for up to 5 players, ages 13 and up. Strap on your armor and RSVP for this if you are interested.

Monthly RPG night: We are trying to get at least one night a month of roleplaying games going, probably every third thursday at this point. What we need however, is at least one gamemaster. All roleplaying systems are welcome. Let us know if you are interested and when we get enough we’ll officially add it to our schedule.

Magic the Gathering Club (Friday, 4-6pm): Bring your cards for playing and trading, or just come to learn the game.

Pokemon League (Saturday, 10am-Noon): Trade and play and earn some free cards and badges.

Family Game Gathering (Sunday, Noon-6pm): Sunday is family game day, arrive when you want and test drive some games from our demo library. Do not be shy about asking us to teach you a new one.

Strategy Game Gathering (Wednesday, 6pm-11pm): One of the best darn game nights in town!
